A wild lion wandered into a five-star-hotel in the middle of a major city in western India. The lion wandered in off the main road and leaped over the hotel gate at around 5:00am on February 8 in Junagarh, Gujarat. We offer the well-known FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) set of qualifications. Interview with Dylan Panos: What were your initial thoughts when you woke up to find the lions? Did the noise wake you or did you walk into the kitchen and notice them? We woke up early in the morning with a group of 8 lions moving through camp. They were very vocal, so we were all well aware of their presence just outside our tents. The students were all safely escorted to the Game Viewing vehicle to drive around camp and to see the lions. The lions moved through the camp ( we also have footage of this if needed), and once they moved to behind the Kitchen building we could no longer see them. Dylan at this point moved around to the kitchen to see where they went while the students were still safe with instructor Emilio van Dyk in the vehicle. As he approached the building he saw the male through the mesh covering and realized that the female was lying just below the wall close to the building as well. Were you frightened? Please elaborate on why or why not. I was not frightened - I am after all trained to live and work around these animals, but I was very cautious – one would never approach mating lions since they are prone to showing aggression – however, we did want to encourage them to move off for the safety of the camp and to gain access to the kitchen obviously. Some comments on Facebook indicate the windows are only covered in wire mesh no glass is that correct? Is there a special reason for this? Yes, it is an open building as you will see in some of the other clips – there are no doors and the windows have only mesh covering. This is just because it is a rustic bush camp and we try to make do with minimum infrastructure there. We are all aware that the camp is open and everyone knows to be on guard and have good situational awareness at all times – this is after all what the students are training for, to be able to take their guests eventually into unspoiled wild areas – so to know how to do this safely, they must be able to live in such open camps, and know how to behave if an animal encounter does occur. The leopard was spotted hiding in a house in Jalandhar, India, but surprisingly jumped off a fence and attacked the people when officials shot it with a tranquillizer gun. Video shows the leopard swiftly jumping from one man to another as it runs in a bid to escape the clutches of the rescuers. One man is knocked off a ladder after he is bitten by the big cat. The leopard then jumps over a wall and runs down a narrow street towards a gathering crowd of more than 100 people. A forest guard was also attacked in the incident but didn't suffer any serious injuries. Went on another Lion Walk encounter with a few guests and the male lion went for a little run down the hill. People were a little nervous but the lion soon came back with some attitude. These lion are born in captivity and cannot be released into the wild, however it is much more humane to see them up close and personal with no cage or fence between you and them. No chains or restraints, only the guides with a stick and bag of meat! The stick is used to feed the lion the meat.

Since then, the Lions population has been steadily increasing. The Forest Department has also been doing commendable work on the lion conservation project and the local people have the biggest role in the campaign. And it is considered the most successful story of efforts to increase the population of an endangered wildlife species. Lion-human friendship: The Asiatic lion is a social royal animal, it does not attack all humans, Lions often live around villages and fields for easy hunting of cattle, Due to the presence of the lion, farmers are benefiting, because animals that harm the crop (Nilgai, deer, wildboar and porcupine) do not come into the fields. The squatter lions didn't seem phased by the couple at first but were startled by the sound of the door closing as they entered the home.
